Android 8.0 Oreo beta for OnePlus 5T is now available

Up to this time, OnePlus has released Oreo updates for the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, and OnePlus 5. The company stated that its new OnePlus 5T would also be seeing an Oreo update a couple days after Christmas, and now we have our first Open Beta for OxygenOS that is based on Android 8.0.

As this is the first Open Beta that OnePlus has released for the 5T, you’ll need to follow the instructions for flashing the new software onto your phone. Once you have done this and got it up and running, you will be enrolled in the beta and receive over-the-air updates for any new versions that are released subsequently. However, it is recommended that you backup your files before commencing the flashing procedure.

With the new software on your 5T, you will find that the following items are available;

  • Updated phone launcher by optimizing app shortcut style

  • Combined icon options with app shortcuts

  • The ability to upload photos to Shot on OnePlus

  • Added Picture in Picture (PiP)

  • Added Auto-Fill

  • Added Smart Text Selection

  • New Quick Settings design

  • Updated Android security patch to December

The OxygenOS Open Beta can flawlessly be used as a daily driver; however, one thing that must be kept in mind is that it may not be quite as stable as an official release.

The dual-SIM OnePlus 5T originally runs OxygenOS 4.7 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and features a 6-inch full-HD+ Full Optic AMOLED display. It is powered by a 2.45GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 6GB and 8GB RAM options. The smartphone sports a dual camera setup with a 16-megapixel Sony IMX398 primary sensor and a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376K telephoto secondary sensor. A 16-megapixel camera sensor is featured on the front. The battery capacity is 3300mAh.

OnePlus 5T has a proprietary Face Unlock feature that makes it a superior option compared to the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3, and the OnePlus 3T. Though, OnePlus is planning to make that exclusive feature available on its previous handsets as well.
