Akufo-Addo’s 1-year rule far better than NDC’s 8 years – Afenyo-Markin

AFENYO-MARKIN

The Fourth Republic of Ghana is 25 years old.

In view of her anniversary, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo together with former Presidents John Dramani Mahama, J.A Kufour and JJ. Rawlings celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the Fourth Republic with Ghanaians at the Independence Square in Accra.

The anniversary was under the theme “25 years of the Fourth Republic – Celebrating the Goodness of the Lord”.

In accordance with the Silver Jubilee, Peace FM’s Kokrokoo panel members sought to review the one year performance of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking on the programme, NPP Member of Parliament for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin hailed President Akufo-Addo for raising the stakes high for opposition parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to contribute their quota.

According to him, the NPP regime under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo has made Ghanaians happy by the numerous social intervention programmes.

Citing initiatives like the free SHS policy, Mr. Afenyo-Markin believed the government is on the right track and would relieve Ghanaians from their plight.

He noted that the Mahama-NDC government failed abysmally in rolling out a single social intervention programme to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

In respect of what President Akufo-Addo has achieved in less than two years for Ghanaians, Hon. Afenyo-Markin asked NDC members to drop their ego and accept that their administration was the worst ever.

He wondered how the NDC could muster courage to make claims that the Akufo-Addo rule is bad.

“If it is bad, it was worse in your 8-year rule…You see, give this government the opportunity to roll out its vision. It doesn’t take a year for a government to implement every vision in its manifesto,” he stated.

FSH Is Now A Clearing House

However, NDC Central Regional Secretary, Allotey Jacobs opined differently.

To him, the government has not lived up to expectation in alleviating the suffering of Ghanaians, and is rather trivializing the running of administration, in that the right decisions are not being made to revamp the economy.

Though commending the President for rolling out policies like the Free SHS and enacting the Special Prosecutor’s bill to curb corruption, Allotey Jacobs told sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh that the President has turned the Seat of Government into a “clearing house” where when issues of national interest crop up, they are simply made to “vanish into thin air without any serious assessment and appropriate sanctions” meted out to the culprits.

“Flagstaff house is no more Flagstaff House. It’s a clearing house now. Your issue is cleaned once you send your matter there”, he stated.
