The 34-year-old, who has also played for Real Madrid and Milan, has signed a one-year contract with his new club, with the option of an extension.
Indonesian side Persib Bandung have confirmed that they have completed the signing of Michael Essien.
The former Chelsea midfielder has signed a one-year contract and, as he did for the Blues, will wear the No.5 shirt for his new team.
Essien made over 250 appearances in all competitions during his time at Stamford Bridge, spending a season on loan at Real Madrid before finally leaving in 2014.
Since then he has featured for the likes of AC Milan and, most recently, Panathinaikos, where he played 12 league games during the 2015-16 campaign.
Speaking of the move to Persib, Essien revealed his desire to be the catalyst for more of the game’s global stars to make the switch to Indonesia.
He told the club’s official website: “I hope I am the prelude to other world players moving to Indonesia.
