Abu Dhabi, UAE – Are you selling your car or handbag online? If so, be vigilant against a new scam targeting online sellers.
On Friday, Abu Dhabi police issued a warning, urging the public to be cautious of this emerging scam.
Colonel Muslim Muhammad Al Amari, head of the Criminal Security Department, explained that the scam begins when fraudsters identify unsuspecting sellers online, typically through social media platforms.
He stated, "After agreeing on the transaction terms, the scammer sends a fake bank receipt, claiming that the transfer process will take a few days, and then requests the seller to ship the item."
Victims soon realize that these "bank receipts" are fraudulent, and no money has been transferred once the item has been sent.
Authorities urge sellers to ensure they have received payment before dispatching any goods.
Victims of such scams are advised to report the incident immediately. Abu Dhabi residents can call the toll-free hotline at 8002626 or email: aman@adpolice.gov.ae to contact the police. Additionally, victims can report through the police’s official app.
Stay safe and ensure payment confirmation before completing any online sales transactions.
