"Border Tensions: Myanmar's Military Maneuvers and Thailand's Readiness"

Myanmar government forces launched a major counterattack on Maw Htao, Thailand scholars: War is imminent, Thailand must be prepared!

On April 11th, according to Thai media reports, recently, Myanmar's military has engaged in fierce battles with opposition forces such as the Karen National Union (KNU) and the People's Defense Force (PDF) in the Maw Htao area. The Karen ethnic armed group "Karen National Liberation Army" announced that it had occupied most of the Maw Htao area, while the Myanmar government army had prepared to abandon its positions, with a large number of Myanmar refugees crossing the river to escape to Thailand.

On April 10th, Dr. Duriafa, a professor at the Southeast Asian Studies Institute of the Faculty of Literature at the National Law University of Thailand, commented on the latest situation. He wrote on his personal Facebook page: The deputy commander of the Myanmar Southeastern Military Region, vice-chairman of the National Administration Council, vice-premier, and army commander have left Naypyidaw and are heading to the Southeastern Military Region headquarters in Maw Taun, and plan to establish a command center. They also mobilized infantry troops equipped with tanks and weapons from the Shan State's eastern branch to reinforce.

He analyzed that the Myanmar military will organize a large-scale counterattack with the goal of recapturing the occupied areas of Maw Htao and opening up the strategic transportation route from Maw Taun (Myanmar's fourth-largest city, a military strategic town in the southeast) to Maw Htao. In other words, Myanmar's military is likely to launch a major counterattack against the Karen armed forces.

This means that this summer, a major war will break out on the Thai-Myanmar border, which may lead to a large number of Myanmar refugees entering Thailand, affecting Thailand's security and stability. Thailand needs to closely monitor the situation in Myanmar.
