Fujairah authorities have seized a caracal, a type of wildcat, found roaming near a residential area close to the mountains.
Aseela Moalla, Director of the Fujairah Environment Agency, confirmed in an interview that the caracal's owner is a UAE citizen. The citizen cooperated with authorities, surrendering the caracal and admitting ignorance regarding the legality of owning such an animal.
The caracal's owner has been slapped with a hefty fine. Although the specific amount was not disclosed by authorities, penalties for possessing dangerous animals without registration in the UAE range from 10,000 to 500,000 dirhams.
Currently, the caracal has been handed over to a zoo, where it will receive proper care and environment.
