UAE - An Asian man sentenced to 10 years in prison + Dh100,000 fine for trying to enter Dubai with drugs hidden in his guts
In a recent legal development, the Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced an individual of Asian nationality to a decade behind bars, to be followed by deportation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Dhs100,000 on the defendant. The harsh verdict came after the individual was found guilty of smuggling and possessing narcotics concealed within their body during an inspection at Dubai International Airport.
The case traces back to an incident in October of the preceding year, when suspicions were raised by a customs inspector during routine checks at the airport.
Upon questioning, the defendant initially denied possessing any illicit substances. However, upon further investigation, customs officials discovered narcotics concealed within the defendant's body, prompting immediate legal action.
The sentencing shows the UAE's steadfast commitment to combatting drug-related crimes and upholding stringent measures to maintain the nation's security and safety. Such actions serve as a deterrent to individuals engaging in illegal activities within the country's borders, reaffirming the UAE's zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and smuggling.
