In a recent development, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has been granted expanded jurisdiction over labor disputes in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new amendment to the labor law allows Mohre to resolve disputes worth up to Dh50,000 without resorting to court proceedings. This significant change aims to streamline the dispute resolution process and provide employees with a more accessible avenue for seeking justice.

At a seminar held at Mohre's headquarters, legal experts elaborated on the implications of the new law and its potential impact on the labor landscape in the UAE. The amendment empowers employees to file complaints directly with Mohre's office through various channels, including in-person submissions, online forms, or via the call center.

Upon receiving a complaint, Mohre will diligently review the case and take proactive steps to facilitate an amicable resolution. If parties are unable to reach a mutual agreement, the resolution process will vary depending on the value of the dispute:

1. Disputes exceeding Dh50,000: In cases where the value of the dispute exceeds Dh50,000, Mohre will refer the matter to the appropriate courts for adjudication.

2. Disputes below Dh50,000: For disputes valued at less than Dh50,000, Mohre will intervene directly to resolve the matter, sparing both parties the need for legal proceedings.

This amendment represents a significant shift in the UAE's labor dispute resolution framework, offering employees a more efficient and accessible means of seeking redress for workplace grievances. By empowering Mohre to handle a broader range of disputes, the government aims to promote fairness, transparency, and efficiency in the labor market.

Employees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their rights under the amended labor law and to utilize Mohre's services in the event of any workplace disputes. With this latest reform, the UAE reaffirms its commitment to upholding labor rights and ensuring a conducive working environment for all residents.
