Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE's first fully government-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network, UAEV, has officially launched in Abu Dhabi, with plans to cover all seven emirates. This landmark initiative, a joint venture between the UAE's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE), aims to bolster the nation’s EV infrastructure and promote sustainable transportation.
By the end of this year, UAEV will have installed 100 fast-charging units, with a long-term goal of expanding this to 1,000 units by 2030. The deployment of these chargers is a significant step towards achieving the UAE’s green energy goals and reducing carbon emissions.
Strategic Placement and Community Access
The network will include 160-kilowatt fast-charging stations strategically placed across the UAE, ensuring accessibility for all community members, including cab drivers. These stations will be located in high-traffic areas to maximize convenience and efficiency for EV users.
Free Charging Until Year-End
In an effort to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, the UAEV charging stations will be free to use until the end of this year. However, the pricing structure post-2024 is yet to be determined.
Supporting Sustainable Development
This initiative aligns with the UAE's commitment to sustainable development and reducing its carbon footprint. By providing widespread access to fast-charging infrastructure, UAEV aims to make electric vehicle ownership more practical and appealing to residents and businesses alike.
Future Expansion
The ambitious plan to install 1,000 charging units by 2030 demonstrates the UAE's forward-thinking approach to sustainable transportation. This network will not only support the growing number of electric vehicles in the country but also contribute significantly to the nation's environmental goals.
