Sheikh Tahnoun's experience in politics
On May 1, UAE heavyweight Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan died at the age of 82 years.
The Presidential Court ordered the country's flags to be flown at half-mast for seven days of mourning, starting on May 1st.
Sheikh Tahnoun, a prominent political figure in the history of the UAE, was appointed Chairman of the Ministry of Agriculture and Chairman of Al Ain Municipality (Chairman of Al Ain) on September 11, 1966, a decision to appoint him taken one month after Sheikh Zayed took office as leader of Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Tahnoun played a key role with Sheikh Zayed in brokering the alliance of the emirates. In July 1971, he began his tenure as Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture.On August 9, 1971, he was appointed representative of the rulers of the eastern region.
On July 8, 1972, Sheikh Tahnoun was appointed to the board of directors of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Arab Economy (now the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development).In 1973, he began serving as chairman of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc).
In 1974, he was appointed Chairman of Al Ain Municipality and Chairman of the Ministry of Agriculture. In addition, he began serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Investment Company (ADIC) when it was established.
In 1977, he began serving as Vice Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and as Chairman of the Al Ain Department of Agriculture and Municipalities.
In 1988, Sheikh Tahnoun was appointed as a member of the Supreme Petroleum Council.
In November 2018, in recognition of Sheikh Tahnoun's outstanding contributions, the Al Ain-Dubai Highway was renamed in his honor.

Rulers of the Al Nahyan family, siblings of the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed, his children and a large number of believers also attended the prayers.
