Compassionate Act by the Police: Fraudster Wanted for Telecommunications Scam in Laos Arrested While Visiting Grandmother's Grave

fraudster arrested in china

Recently, authorities from the Nancheng Police Station in Anlu City, China, made a breakthrough in a telecommunications fraud case when they discovered that the suspect, Cao Xiao (alias), had seemingly returned to his hometown.

According to the Nancheng police, on January 18th of this year, based on instructions from the Ministry of Public Security's 7.17 special operation, police in a certain location in Sichuan Province, China, found significant suspicions of involvement in telecommunications fraud and other illegal activities abroad by Cao Xiao, a native of Anlu City, who was suspected to have been operating in countries like Laos. After entering the country, Cao Xiao's whereabouts became unknown, prompting Sichuan police to list him as an online fugitive.

On April 4th, after thorough investigation, the Nancheng Police Station successfully apprehended Cao Xiao, who had returned to his hometown. Faced with questioning by the police, Cao Xiao admitted to the basic facts of his involvement in telecommunications fraud abroad. However, he remained evasive on several key points.

"Cao Xiao was initially quite cooperative, but suddenly became hesitant. There must be something bothering him." After patiently persuading and explaining policies to Cao Xiao, the police finally uncovered the reason behind his sudden hesitation: it turns out that Cao Xiao was raised by his grandmother during his childhood, and the bond between them was strong. "I have committed such a serious offense. If I can't go to my grandmother's grave this year (during the Qingming Festival), I don't know when I will be able to pay my respects to her again."

In order to demonstrate the humane enforcement of the police and encourage the suspect to confess and fully disclose his crimes, with the approval of the higher authorities, the Nancheng Police Station deployed police cars and personnel to accompany Cao Xiao back to his village to pay his respects at his grandmother's grave.

"Recognizing one's mistakes and turning over a new leaf is the right path. Grandma would be happy even in the afterlife." Before entering the cemetery, the on-site commander personally unlocked Cao Xiao's handcuffs.

Yesterday, Anlu police revealed that after returning from paying respects at his grandmother's grave, Cao Xiao voluntarily confessed to other illegal activities that the police had not yet uncovered. Cao Xiao will soon be handed over to the Sichuan police for further investigation.
