The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) in the UAE has announced the enforcement of fines for individuals overstaying in the country after the expiry of their exit permits.
According to the ICP, tourists or residents who remain in the UAE beyond the validity of their exit permits will be subject to penalties.
The exit permit, also known as the exit pass, is required for individuals who intend to leave the UAE but do not possess a valid visa due to expiry, cancellation, or refusal.
To obtain an exit permit, individuals must approach the immigration authorities at airports or land borders.
Under the new regulations, individuals overstaying in the UAE will be fined AED 100 per day for each day of their unauthorized stay after acquiring the exit pass. The fine aims to deter individuals from remaining in the country beyond the permitted period and to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
The process for obtaining an exit permit involves submitting the original and copy of the individual's passport, a copy of the travel ticket, and personal photos. Once the necessary documents are provided, the exit permit will be issued, granting the individual a grace period of 7 days to depart from the UAE.
Failure to comply with the exit permit regulations will result in the imposition of fines, which must be paid before the exit permit is issued.
The fine for overstaying is applicable on a daily basis until the individual departs from the country.
The implementation of fines for overstaying shows the UAE's commitment to regulating immigration and ensuring the orderly entry and exit of individuals. It serves as a reminder to residents to adhere to immigration regulations and comply with the terms of their visas and permits.
For individuals planning to depart from the UAE, it is advisable to apply for an exit permit in advance to avoid any inconvenience or penalties associated with overstaying. The processing time for the exit permit is generally prompt, but early application is recommended to facilitate a smooth departure process.
