"this had not been the first time this hospital had played "Good Samaritan "role" says the suspended Medical Director of Winneba Trauma Hospital

Two days after a public outcry on a widely circulated video of a woman who was abandoned in a bush by the Trauma hospital which subsequently led to her death, the MD of Trauma hospital has been suspended.

It has been alleged that the woman who was brought in and left in the car of the hospital was a victim of a "hit and run" accident.

However, unconfirmed reports which is in the public domain says, the hospital got fed up with the patient as a result of her many troubles she caused patients due to a mental illness she suffered as a result of the accident and therefore abandoned her in a bush in an outskirt at Ojobi.

Although a committee has been set up by the health minister to investigate the truthfulness or otherwise of the unconfirmed reports, the suspended Medical Director, in an alleged report has sought to defend himself by debunking the hearsays.

According to him, although the woman was mentally challenged, she was treated, and she subsequently became well. The MD furthermore argues that the woman was released in accordance with her wish.

In his own words, "Sincerely speaking, if one should objectively analyse the situation at hand, one would realize that the hospital had played its role as expected of it by taking care of the patient, empathize with her but unfortunately the inevitable occurred.

"It would interest the public to know that Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Winneba is being operated by well-trained health professionals and will not for a moment misconduct themselves to dent the corporate image of the Ghana Health Service and its own image as a secondary referral facility," he stated.

"Furthermore, mention should be made clearly that this had not been the first time this hospital had played "Good Samaritan "role by taking care of patients of such calibre and delivering them back safely to their community after getting well. Records are available to authenticate the veracity of this claim,"
