The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (Mohre) in the UAE announced on Friday that over 1,300 private companies have been penalized for violating Emiratization regulations from mid-2022 to May 16, 2024.
Each case of violation incurred fines ranging from AED 20,000 to AED 100,000.
Mohre stated that these 1,379 companies were found to have illegally employed 2,170 UAE nationals.
The UAE mandates that private companies increase the proportion of Emirati employees by 2% annually, with a target of reaching at least 10% by 2026.
According to data collected from mid-2022 to May 2024, over 97,000 UAE nationals are currently employed in approximately 20,000 private companies domestically.
To ensure compliance, the ministry conducts regular inspections. Since the implementation of the regulations, hundreds of companies engaging in illegal employment practices to evade targets have been identified and penalized.
If it is found that UAE nationals are merely employed nominally without actual tasks to fulfill the company's Emiratization goals, Emiratization is considered fraudulent. Some companies even resort to "re-hiring" Emiratis to manipulate the data.
This crackdown reflects the UAE's commitment to prioritize the employment of its citizens and ensure the success of its Emiratization initiative.
