UAE NEWS : POLICE:
The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced two Arab nationals to seven years in prison and ordered their deportation upon completion of their sentence.
They were convicted of possession, holding, and abusing 1,000 pills of psychotropic drugs, with each person fined 200,000 dirhams (approximately 400,000 RMB).
The details trace back to December 2023 when an inspector at Dubai International Airport found 100 strips containing 1,000 pills of psychotropic drugs in the bag of a tourist from their own country.
The suspects reported that they received the confiscated items from someone in their home country and handed them over to a compatriot residing in the UAE. Subsequently, airport police were informed of the incident.
A police officer testified during interrogation that the suspects admitted to carrying the narcotic pills and delivering them to another resident of another emirate. Reportedly, the officer requested him to contact that person for collecting the psychotropic drugs near the Dubai South Naif Police Station.
Police set a trap, and the second suspect was caught red-handed while receiving the seized items.
During a search of his residence in another emirate, 230 pills of psychotropic drugs were found.
Upon questioning, he admitted to possessing these drugs with the intention of consuming them.
