An animal rescue center in the UAE has embarked on an ambitious mission - sending more than 60 huskies from the UAE to colder countries.
Amirah Williams, founder of the Stray Dogs Centre (Stray Dogs Centre) in Umm al-Qaiwain, which currently has 63 huskies waiting to be rehomed, said. "We have been helped by a very kind and generous sponsor who has volunteered to pay the costs associated with each husky that finds a true home in a cooler country."
"Of the 63 huskies in our rescue, 60% were surrendered by their owners and 40% came to us as rescues." The nonprofit stray dog center takes in abused, abandoned and forgotten strays and has a "no kill" policy.
"We are currently screening a number of overseas applicants and arranging home checks with our rescue partners. We have contacted applicants from New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, Belgium, Finland, Greenland, Iceland and Norway."
The cost of transporting huskies to other countries varies from country to country. "For example, it costs at least 35,000 dirhams to send a husky to New Zealand. To European countries, it costs around Dh8,000 to Dh10,000 per dog."
