Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has expressed profound disappointment and anguish regarding recent events related to the chaos at the University of Education, Winneba.
Agyapong, angered by what he perceives as a misrepresentation of events by the media and dissatisfied with the contents of a statement released by the police administration, shared his grievances during an interview on Asempa FM. He detailed the sequence of events and pledged to remain silent on any future issues in the country.
Reports had suggested that Agyapong received a 'warning' from ACP David Eklu, Director General, after allegedly making aggressive remarks to a police officer during a student demonstration. In response, Agyapong accused the police administration of hastily issuing a statement without following due process, aiming to tarnish his hard-earned reputation.
Agyapong recounted the events at the University of Education, Winneba, stating that he was invited by the Education Minister to help address the chaos. He highlighted the three groups involved—the suspended lecturers, protesting students, and the police team. Agyapong emphasized his efforts to mediate between the parties and voiced concern about the police using force.
He disputed the police statement's version of events, claiming it omitted crucial details, such as his intervention to prevent violence and offering financial assistance for a injured officer's medical bills. Frustrated by what he perceived as unfair treatment, Agyapong declared his decision to remain silent on the UEW matter and any other national issues, prioritizing his life and children.
Agyapong expressed his disillusionment with the situation, vowing not to intervene in such matters again. He emphasized his frustration with the perceived injustice and stated that he would no longer speak on behalf of any policeman facing accusations.
