Five local and international companies have submitted bids to complete the Saglemi Housing project, a stalled affordable housing initiative in Accra.
The project, which began in 2012, aims to provide 5,000 housing units for low-income families. The companies are: Ghanaian construction firm, Devtraco Plus; Turkish construction company, TOKI; Chinese State construction Engineering Corporation; Ghanaian-owned, SSNIT Estates Limited; and a joint venture between Ghana's Swami India Limited and India's Swami Construction Limited.
The winner is expected to be announced in August. The winning company will be responsible for completing the remaining 3,000 housing units, infrastructure development and amenities such as schools, healthcare facilities, and community centers.
"The bids are being evaluated, and we expect to announce the winner in August," said a spokesperson for the ministry of Housing. "We are committed to providing affordable housing for low-income families, and this project is a significant step towards achieving that goal."
