Thailand Boosts Tourist Safety with Increased Compensation Plan
In a move to enhance tourist safety and confidence in Thailand, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, led by Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has collaborated with the National Emergency Medical Institute of the Ministry of Public Health to launch a new compensation plan for foreign tourists. The initiative aims to bolster Thailand's image as a safe and welcoming destination for travelers from around the world.
Under the "Compensation for Injured or Deceased Foreign Tourists" program, tourists who suffer injuries or fatalities while visiting Thailand will receive increased compensation, with the maximum payout reaching up to 1 million Thai baht. This significant raise in compensation underscores Thailand's commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its visitors and ensuring their safety during their stay in the country.
The announcement of the new plan comes amidst efforts to rebuild Thailand's tourism industry, which has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
By providing greater financial protection for tourists, Thailand aims to restore confidence among travelers and encourage them to choose Thailand as their preferred destination once again.
One notable provision of the compensation plan includes a specific clause addressing permanent disabilities resulting from accidents during travel. In cases where tourists sustain permanent disabilities such as the loss of reproductive organs or blindness due to non-intentional violations or risky behaviors, the Thai government will offer a one-time compensation payment of 300,000 Thai baht, equivalent to approximately $9000.
Minister Phiphat emphasized that the enhanced compensation plan reflects Thailand's commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of tourists.
He also highlighted the importance of building trust and confidence among international travelers, particularly as the tourism industry seeks to recover from the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Tourists planning to visit Thailand can now have greater peace of mind knowing that they are covered by the comprehensive compensation plan in the event of unforeseen accidents or emergencies. The implementation of this initiative underscores Thailand's proactive approach to ensuring a safe and secure environment for tourists, contributing to the country's efforts to revitalize its tourism sector and attract visitors from around the globe.
