Take precautions! UAE doctors warn of increasing trend of bronchitis and pneumonia cases
According to medical experts in the UAE, more than five out of every 10 patients who visit hospitals are diagnosed with bronchitis and nearly one out of every 10 patients are diagnosed with pneumonia.
Experts attribute this rise (in the number of bronchitis and pneumonia cases) to sudden weather fluctuations and dusty, hot conditions, with climate change causing people to get respiratory infections and develop acute bronchitis.
"The recent poor air quality has led to a lot of coughing and it can last for 3-4 weeks. Smoking or secondhand smoke can also aggravate the coughing symptoms of acute bronchitis, which makes it more difficult to treat."
Experts advise people to minimize going out on days with poor air quality, wear masks when going to crowded places, treat cold and flu symptoms as soon as they occur, and eat a balanced diet with the right amount of vitamins.
